Kyrie Irving is one of the big names in the NBA and an important cog in the wheel of the Cavaliers system. He was bought to compliment Lebron James and many doubted that he may be able to do it. James always has been the primary ball handler of his team no matter what – that is what made people sceptical about Kyrie Irving as he is also a primary ball handler but with a scoring mentality. So, obviously, looking at the style of both players, it didn’t look like Irving would be able to compliment James on the job he was supposed to. Ranging from fans to the pundits, everyone had written Irving off that two of a trade can never agree. Irving wasn’t an off the ball player unlike James’ previous partner Wade. James being the senior and, obviously, the better player was not going to change his style and it was up to Irving to make or break his career at the Cavaliers. Irving wasn’t going to give in and, surprisingly, proved to be James’ best partner in the Finals ever.

Irving is totally not a pass first player and rarely is anyone who plays in his position until the later stages of their career. Many believed that Irving should be traded for Chris Paul earlier in the season as Irving’s assist stats were not good enough, which was causing a discomfort between fans and the club board. It was believed that James needed a partner who would pass first rather than shoot and Paul totally suited that style; plus he had been a good friend of James’ as well.

The coach, though, knew better about what to do and what not to; had Irving been a big issue he would have traded him – but he didn’t. That proved to be a very good decision, as the Cavaliers went on to win the title with Irving being, arguably, the best player in the finals. Irving proved that he is a big game player, never shying away from the spotlight as he scored the winner in the final moments of the game 5 of finals.

In the seven game series of the final, the Caveliers were 3-1 down and still they staged an epic comeback, with Lebron James and Kyrie Irving being the focal points of the team. Kyrie was in the finals and combined well with Lebron as he outplayed Curry by a landslide.

Irving gave a sensational performance; whether the team won or lost Irving was on song and one could have seen it on his face – the look of a warrior who was out there to show the world what he is capable of. Irving in each of the game left his heart and soul on the court and the amount of passion he showed was unbelievable.

Average points on a game of Irving

Irving averaged 27 points a game, with around 4 assist a game, contributing in about one third of the team’s points. Irving was surely the best partner Lebron had and despite all the odds the duo worked out. James had known Irving since he was a high school student in New Jersey and always treated him like a brother. This also paid off on the pitch as their chemistry proved to be unbreakable.

All the odds stood against them when the team was already 3-1 down in a seven game series. One loss and it was over but the character shown by the players especially these two was overwhelming and it had surely been one of the best series of finals the world had ever witnessed.
